BMW 7 Series Towering Road Presence and Beautifully Engineered Engines

If you are fortunate enough and blessed with a lot of money then you can afford a limo-class flagship from one of the top auto manufacturers. You can choose from an elite lineup of Mercedes S Class, Audi A8, and BMW 7 Series. We would not blame you if your heart skips a beat for the new BMW 7 Series. The flagship vehicle from the German automotive giant has been the choice of corporates and even heads of state all over the world for many years. The quality that separates BMW 7 Series from its rivals is that while it is perfect for settling in the back seat and being driven around, it is also a driver’s car and can be super enjoyable when you are in the mood to drive one.

Engines using Advanced Technology

BMW 7 Series has been given 3 petrol and 1 diesel engine choice but all of them have a mild hybrid electric system to aid the vehicle. The range starts from a petrol BMW engine producing 286 hp at 5000 rpm and 400 Nm torque between 1750-4500. It can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.4 seconds with a top speed limited to 155 mph. next up is the diesel MHEV engine producing 300 hp at 4000 rpm and 650 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds.

A more powerful option is the 740i MHEV engine which produces 380 hp and 520 Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0-60 in 5 seconds with a top speed electronically limited to 155 mph.  However, the real jewel in the crown is the most powerful engine provided to the 7 Series. It produces a whopping 544 hp at5500 rpm and 750 Nm of torque between 1800-5500 rpm. It shifts from 0-60 in mere 4 seconds and is electronically limited to 155 mph. used and reconditioned BMW engines are also available in the market at affordable prices.

Imposing and Stand Out Interior

Let’s be honest, the new BMW 7 Series is much like Marmite. You either love it or you hate it with your guts. In our opinion, this is the most outstanding and imposing exterior that BMW has ever given to its 7 Series. Yes, the front grill is way too big for our liking but the Chinese market has a soft spot for bigger grills and you can not ignore such an important market.

If we get past the front grill then it’s all amazing and stylish. The grill makes it a bit of a terrifying-looking object and the slim laser headlights give it a mean face. Bonnet is raised to 50mm in height to adjust to the huge grill on the front. This has resulted in a more prominent road presence. Lots of technology is on display such as the aero ducts in the front bumper that diverts the air to the back through air breather vents to reduce drag.

Back LED lights are better than ever and the lighting elements illuminate the back across the whole length of the back. The shape at the back is refined and well-built and the long wheel-based car owns the road due to its size and presence on the tarmac.

Classy and Expensive Inside

BMW’s interior aesthetics has always been influenced by a business mindset. It has not changed much and it still is very corporate. You can open the vehicle with the state-of-the-art key supplied with the vehicle that features a 2.2-inch screen displaying information about the car. Once inside, you are in a world of luxury and quality. Every piece of equipment is made of supreme quality materials and the dashboard displays peak design features.

The interior is dripping with technology and everything is touch sensitive. Seats are trimmed in leather and seats hug you from the sides quite nicely. BMW use its infotainment system which works brilliantly. You can control the infotainment system with the iDrive system, voice commands or gesture control system.

It’s obvious to say that there is a great deal of space available within the cabin. Long wheelbase 7 Series provide so much space for its occupants that allows you to stretch your legs with ease.

A Flagship Packed with Gadgets and Technology

The new 7 series have some unbelievably cool gadgets that make it a pure pleasure to drive. The revolution starts with the frame itself which includes carbon fiber steel and aluminium to make it more stable. The kidney grill features automatic shutters that open to cool down the engine and shut down to improve aerodynamics.

Inside the cabin, you have a gesture control system letting you control functions with hand gestures. It has a brand-new heads-up display. The key has a built-in screen and the key has two batteries one for the screen and the other for the lock buttons. You get a 7-inch touch command tablet at the back seat that controls everything from lighting to climate control to navigation.

BMW is given a satellite-assisted transmission that uses GPS to read the geography and the road ahead to make appropriate adjustments. There is a parking assistant and active cruise control that not only brakes when there is a vehicle at the front but also can steer away and change lanes. You can get optional gadgets as well that include a surround view, lane departure warning, collision warning, pedestrian protection, blind spot protection and driver assistance.

Verdict

BMW 7 series reigns supreme in the flagship segment and in terms of handling and technology, gives its rivals a run for their money. The only thing that is questionable is its ride quality which is not as creamy when you make a comparison with its direct rivals.

The engine lineup is remarkably strong and the infotainment system supporting the new PIVI is remarkable. It emits the lowest CO2 emissions as well to save the planet. The only thing we can point our finger is the ugly grill at the front and the huge price tag. Apart from that, it is a bargain for those who can afford it.
